Senate continues Bureau of Customs (BOC) 5 billion shabu probe scandal

Senate Blue Ribbon Committee head Richard Gordon is expected to probe why a shabu ship cargo worth 6.4 billion pesos got thru the Express lane channels of the Philippine Bureau of Customs.

Gordon wants to know how this shipment nearly went pass thru the Express lane undetected by Customs officials led by Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon. Faeldon has since attended a Congressional inquiry and instead of directly answering the question, diverted the probe and raised the issue that the probe was some form of revenge by Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez after Faeldon rejected the Speaker’s request for the promotion of a 15 year old Customs veteran.

The shabu shipment which was initially assessed as worth between 6-8 billion pesos was found in a warehouse in Valenzuela. Customs officials were able to confiscate the shabu haul after they got a tip from the Chinese government.

Several quarters are urging President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to immediately replace Faeldon. A former Magdalo member, Faeldon supported Duterte during the 2016 Presidential elections. He got the limelight when he challenged Senator Antonio Trillanes IV to a duel in defense of Duterte.
